Departure from the V&A Waterfront

The experience begins at the helipad in the heart of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. As the helicopter lifts off, you are immediately treated to a panoramic view of the Cape Town Harbour, the City Bowl, and the majestic backdrop of Table Mountain and Lion's Head.

Crossing Table Bay

The aircraft heads north across the sparkling blue waters of Table Bay. This short transit (about 7km) highlights the physical isolation of the island. From the air, you can often spot marine life, including pods of dolphins or Southern Right Whales (seasonal).

Circumnavigating Robben Island

The highlight of the flight is a complete circumnavigation of Robben Island. From your aerial vantage point, the layout of the UNESCO World Heritage site becomes clear:

• The Maximum-Security Prison: View the cell blocks where Nelson Mandela and other anti-apartheid activists were held for decades.

• The Limestone Quarry: See the site where prisoners were forced to work, which now stands as a symbol of resilience.

• The Village & Lighthouse: Spot the small community of residents who maintain the island and the historic 19th-century lighthouse.

• Shipwrecks & Penguins: The rugged coastline of the island is dotted with ancient shipwrecks and is home to a large colony of African Penguins.

The "Postcard" Return

The return leg offers what many consider the best photography opportunity in South Africa. As you fly back toward the mainland, Table Mountain rises up to meet you, framed by the city skyscrapers and the curve of the coastline. The descent provides one final look at the Cape Town Stadium and the bustling activity of the Waterfront before touching down.
